Very Cool Button Display Case on Etsy

A seller over at Etsy has some very nice looking display cases for buttons.  They are probably the nicest display cases I’ve ever seen for buttons.  If you have a lot of buttons, this would be a great way to show them off.  If you are looking for some ideas on how to use this case in your home, scroll down to the bottom of this post.  The seller is named “buttoncollective” and they also have their own website.

The case below holds ten 1″ buttons.  You can hang the board vertically or horizontally.  It can be yours for only $45.

You can also buy a square case in multiple colors.  The case below is $35.  The company also has a case that holds one hundred buttons for $100.

Ideas on how to used this case in your home:

It would really help if you have your own button maker for the ideas below.

Idea 1: Since today is the 4th of July, you could show your patriotism by purchasing three of the long cases.  Hang the cases next to each other and fill each case with a solid color button (red, white, and blue).

Idea 2: Hang a case in your bathroom. Fill the case with illustrations of bathroom products (toilet paper, toothbrush, cue-tip, etc.).  If you are artsy, you can create the graphics yourself, or you can buy some art over at istockphoto.

Idea 3: Display today’s date with a button case.  Get rid of that lame thing on your desktop that makes you tear off a sheet of paper to display today’s date.  Just get some buttons that have numbers on them.  On the case, just put 07 04 08 and you have today’s date.  Plus, you’ve just saved the environment by eliminating that wasted paper.  If you don’t have a button machine, you can get custom number and letter buttons from Pinsetter.

Do you have an idea?  Just post it in the comments section.

What’s in a Name?

Naming a business can be just as hard as finishing a business plan.  Sometimes, the name of a business can be the difference between success and failure - especially online.

The first successful business I started was named Silk Screen Biz.  I really don’t remember why I picked the name.  From an internet marketing standpoint, I wanted “silk screen” in the name; I then added “Biz” to the end and I had a business name.  When I decided to expand into buttons, naming my business was easy - “Button Biz“.

Companies spend thousands of dollars with ad agencies for the sole purpose of naming a product or a business.   When I decided to start this blog, the obvious name for the blog would be “Button Blog”.  Unfortunately, the .com domain was not available.  Instead of spending a lot time thinking about a name for the blog, I decided to try out a new service called NameThis.

For $99, you’re able to post a project on the website.  For the next 48 hours, members of the website post suggestions and vote on suggestions.  At the end of the project, you’re presented with the three most popular names as voted on by the members.  You can visit the project I posted, and you can see the top three suggestions below.

There were 290 different names suggested.  The top name was “Nippy” but the .com version of that domain wasn’t available.  So, I selected a different name that was suggested (and who’s .com domain was available).  That name was buttonblogger.com and that explains how this website was named.

If you are looking to name a business, find a slogan, or name a product then consider NameThis.

I am the Button Blogger

My name is Ryan Renner and I’m the Button Blogger.

Back in 2003, I started ButtonBiz.com. Since then, it has become one of the largest online retailers of button making machines and supplies. Over the past five years, I’ve helped thousands of people make their own buttons, and I’ve seen thousands of different button designs

With this blog, I hope to share with you some of the best buttons ever made. Some will be funny, some will be artsy, and I’m sure a lot will be political. I’ll also post some tips to help people making their own buttons. The format of the blog will always be a work in progress, and I encourage readers to send me feedback on how to make it better.
